My soapbox speech about returns is that I will not be made to feel guilty about them until companies use a more diverse range of models (a single size 14 person does not count) and, at the very least, provide garment measurements!
A poll on shopping items; let's make this a regular thing, shall we?
You know I land in the box of shame when it comes to buying and returning. Honestly, I think my return rate is embarrassingly high because I am also very picky. I'm glad to see that you returned that Staud shirt because I've romanticized it a bit after seeing it on other people. Not only would it probably not look great on me BUT where would I actually wear it?!
I love this format especially the reasoning behind why you returned them. I do like the Stuad top but I think there are shirts that give you a similar vibe while being a bit more wearable!
Ok the jeans look incredible on you!!! but I fully understand that they’re not the fit you WANTED hahaha. Am I insane for being obsessed with the staud shirt? I think you look fabulous, like I love your whole look in the comparison pic ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Love the polls and the links, fun way to up engagement! going to go read Kelly’s piece on if I had to keep everything I bought rn and maybe Learn Shame? 😅😅😅
This was fun! But I think you made the right move returning all of them. (Also, I am the biggest proponent of in-person shopping to avoid unnecessary buying and the drag of making returns. The only area where I really can't make that work is swimwear, b/c no one seems to actually stock swimwear, sadly.)
please don't mind my extremely overdue response here: but thank you Lindsey!! I wish swimwear was in stock to try on in stores, and then I also wish dressing rooms could have some decent lighting so it had an honest chance! lol
Loved this article! While there are endless choices online I would say more often than not it doesn't live up my expectations. Even in New York I find the stores have become more and more limited in what they offer, especially the big stores that all carry the same brands I always order thinking I will most likely have to return, but just like a slot machine you get the occasional win that keeps you going!
Love how you ask these questions. I've heard before if we have to ask it is an automatic no. I *think* I do that but maybe not always. I am pretty good about not letting discounts sway me but the negative side of that is I often pay full price, but at least it is for things I LOVE and I get a lot (years! decades!) of wear out of.
the dress looked great on you, but if it feels like plastic, def a return! I hate in person shopping, but I have to try clothes on or I'll be returning way too much, and I HATE returning packages lol
Obsessed with this concept! I am a big online shopper and returner and it never bothered me too much until someone asked me how much time I spent returning these pieces. Honestly, it’s a lot. I don’t have a printer so I have to print a label at fedex, package the item, drive elsewhere to drop it off. It’s something I keep in mind now before I purchase: will I want to spend time returning this item too.
oof that's a gut punch! I also don't have a printer at home, does anyone these days!? definetely paying the expense of time to do returns. loved reading your thoughts, stephanie, sorry for the delayed response <3
I have so many neglected siblings of that white top in my closet. A more conceptual shirt always seems like such a good idea at the time, but are never what I reach for.
Thanks for the reminder re: outstanding items to return. Also a psa that the real real is getting very strict with returns and they count their 14 days from the day that they started processing the order, not the date it was shipped or received, which makes no sense.
I’m the same with buying and returning … it’s a hassle for sure but if something is not a hell yes, for me, it’s a no. I don’t accept the internet shame about the practice. You have to try something on to know and shopping in person is just not what it used to be.
The Hunza g one piece, IMO, is worth the money. I’ve never in my life had a one piece that I actually like wearing, and it’s a necessity for my stage of life (So Many Waterparks).
Love the way you said, "if something is not a hell yes, it's a no." THAT is the mindset I've been trying to adopt. Thank you for this comment! I took way too long to reply but wanted you to know how much I appreciate it! <3
Loved this post! I’m primarily an online shopper, and I get so annoyed if companies make returns difficult, I return probably half of what I end up ordering but most of the time I can’t find it in store and I don’t like dealing with sales people or crowds, I’d much rather try on at home, with my own shoes/bags ect…I feel a lot more pressure to buy if I’m in a store and always end up overspending.
So great how you recognize that pressure to buy in store and can avoid it. I definetely can relate, plus the natural lighting at home is wayyyy better than any dressing room's (excluding reformation)!

This reply is a month overdue but you could not be more right!

Totally see what you’re saying about not needing more swimsuits but I love that one!! If you needed more I would definitely say keep
I agree! It is really cute.
Girl I want to go shopping with you!! Haha! This one might find it's way back to me next season.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment. <3
"just like a slot machine" that is sadly so true. no wonder we say we "scored" when we finally find something that works.

YES! What is is with this style of shirt that looks so appealing on models but feels so meh IRL!

Very fun!! Don’t want to encourage ordering/returning even more lol but I loved this format and seeing how pieces look on a real person vs models!!
Thank you Samantha!! <3 Sorry for such a delayed response but I am glad you are here!

Agreed! Ref lighting makes me think I look good in everything 😂😅🤪 bad for the wallet 😂😅 but I love them so much!
I’m giggling, it is so true! I need that “sexy time” setting put on all my lights!
