Might I also add just browsing in a vintage shop to the list of analog + inspiring small moments ... I also just wrote about this. Definitely one of life's free and small pleasures! 😊

Enjoyed this brain dump of yours, Elle! My first born helped me get off my phone. I never wanted her seeing me scroll away, so I always made it a point to not have it around her. Now, I could put it away for hours and not even think about it. It’s freeing, really!

Love this need to uplift the daily. As for fashion inspiration, follow people whose style is way more exaggerated than yours. Things you’d never wear. There will occasionally be some colour mix, ratio of clothing, bag style that will spark inspiration and you’ll be off….Enjoy! 🥰

I'm so happy to see so much magazine love in the comments! A family friend recently gifted me a stack of 80s-90s copies of Vogue and other assorted magazines, and I have been having so much fun with them. I've transitioned to a B&W printer but the urge to print in colour so I can photocopy pages for collage material is so strong...

What a treat! From my eBay searches I’ve gathered that old magazines are seriously valuable! Photocopying for collage material is genius

I love your brain dump Elle. Thank you so much for including me in your post and honestly, I’m with you on the phone free walks. I sometimes walk, check phone, then suddenly arrive and wonder how I got there hahaha x

Really enjoyed this! We’ve also started charging our phones in the living area and switched to an “old school” alarm clock.

ironic that magazines are now my actual source of inspiration after spending the last 15 years reading about how they were outdated and 'digital is the future' (yes it is but the way it is, it inspires nothing).

Right now I feel very grateful that I never cut up or discarded my old copies of Vogue, i-D, Harper's Bazaar, Elle, Lula and a pile of other magazines, but back in 2007 the magazines were the only 'fashion' thing I could afford so I saw them as precious treasures even if it was a pain to lug them from one living situation after another.

Phone charges in the other room is also a practice in my marriage - game changer!

I'm still bad as using the "special items" every day, loved this reminder. A few years ago I was given this super expensive face mask that I felt I could never use because it was so precious. I left it so long it literally expired and I didn't even use it once...now that's just sad lol. Great round-up, have a lovely week, xx

Ugh I feel you, I’ve definitely done that before with a makeup product too, another great reason to use our special things every day. Thank you sooo much for reading!!

Vogue and Bazaar. So sad InStyle and Lucky went away. I loved Domino too. I picked up the recent The Cut because every article was 💯 there are also some amazing kids ones we subscribe to for my daughter and I might love more than she does. Kazoo and Anywhere. Monocle I grab a lot too. Put me in a magazine kiosk and I’ll never want to leave. Fashion magazines were my entry to the industry as I grew up in Southeastern VA and I read cover to cover. Another reason why I love substack - I feel like I’m writing and reading my own personal magazine.

Yes! Movies are a great source of inspiration. I watched Priscilla last weekend at home but made sure to plug my phone in beforehand so I wasn’t distracted. Didn’t quite get the plot but was really into the outfits, hair and makeup!
