Are you having fun yet???
low-lift adds to make every outfit feel like a good time
Does anyone else feel like they’ve been a bit too serious and uptight lately?
It’s June. The UV is 8. My next ice cream is never more than 24 hours away. Beach reads are as abundant as they’ve ever been. The Parent Trap is waiting to be rewatched.
Life is sweet. I hate when I forget to be grateful for the little things.
Every day is an opportunity for a cute outfit. Bermuda shorts are in. There have never been better sandal options than there are right now. Color is e-v-e-r-y-w-h-e-re. Dior x The Very Hungry Caterpillar exists. Two words: Burberry. Bikini.
What a time to be alive and into fashion.
My Substack’s tagline is ‘Fashion is supposed to be FUN!!!’ The extra emphasis is intentional, because sometimes I forget.
I've been thinking of low-lift additions to make any outfit FUN, as they should be.
This is my shortlist…
Beads in their many forms
If beads aren’t fun, what is?? They remind me of a summer camp craft, except the iterations of today are far more elevated. I’m not just talking about wearing them around your neck, although Baublebar has nailed the look, and at a reasonable price point. I’m talking about this insane pair of sandals from Reformation x Courtney Grow, or this bag that might be the most fabulous way to add texture to an outfit ever, or this swimsuit by Staud that caught my eye in-store a couple weeks ago.
Color cravings
Basically every shade is trending all at once, so don’t overthink it. Butter yellow might not be cool forever and ever, that doesn’t mean you can’t have fun wearing it right now. Brands are understanding the assignment with their crave-able color palettes (see slides #1-3)
Slide #1, Leset:
Slide #2, DONNI.:
Slide #3, The Great.:
I was personally influenced by Jaymee Geelan when she reminded us how good a punchy orange is in her latest post…
…me no more than 3 days later, tyyyy Jaymee!!

Sailboats, ahoy!
On our New England trip, I saw this sweater at least 10x. I feel like sailboats are the new sardine. That’s not to say there isn’t room for both summery symbols, but where I’ve seen little fish in years prior I’m now seeing watercraft. Am I being geographically influenced or has this spread nationwide? Let me know what you’re seeing in your part of the world. Either way, a kitschy nautical nod is always fun.
Clearly The Great. is at the forefront of this trend in my mind. I’d been scouring the internet for this tee after seeing it in an old Lucy Williams outfit photo on Pinterest and was thrilled to finally find it. I love the 1950’s souvenir graphic.
Impractical shoes
When an outfit is falling flat, the first thing I try is swapping the shoes. I’ve always been a shoe girl… if I won the lottery my first purchase would be shoes.
The most unexpected and gaping hole I’ve been feeling in my closet is a pair of unreasonably tall wedges to wear to dinner. For someone who loves walking as much as I do, this makes no sense. Sometimes the fun is in the inexplicable.

The shape-shifting sarong
Does a more multi-faceted and delightful article of clothing exist? It’s a skirt, it’s a wrap, it’s a mini dress. It can add personality to the outfit, or it can be the outfit.

Maybe I just can’t stop thinking about all the possibilities of this green sarong I tried on at DÔEN and I’m trying to justify it…
‘Tis the season for getting dressed to feel like a good time! What’s making fashion feel fun to you right now?
Thank you so much for reading. I hope your ice cream cones never melt and all your beach reads have perfectly satisfying endings. 😘
